August 28 Pool 5a

Made my way out to 5a for about 3 hours on Sunday and it was a onesy-twosy event. Every place we stopped had fish on it but after 1 or 2 the bite left and so did we.
The funniest part of the day was our first stop. I quickly threw what we call "Big Ugly" It is a type of pig and jig.
My partner saw me toss this in and responded "What the heck kinda christmas tree orniment you got there?"
No sooner did his mouth shut than on my second cast I hit a nice 3lb largie. :D
We both laughed and he found out how dealy the big ugly can be!
We hit slop, points with current most of the time. We saw fish chasing shad and we would throw in the mix and bam, fish on.
With cooling temps they will soon be schooling and you will find many more togather.

Nice Report Haywood, I cant wait till they really start schooling up. I have found a few spots that there are a lot a fish on them, but the size isnt always the greatest, i'm sure at times the big ones move in, but ya better be there at the right time.
You should take a picture of the spot you caught that 3lber and we can guess to see if we know the spot!!! :D :p

Sounds like a great way to spend a few hours. Did you toss any tubes on the wingdams for smallies? I found this increase in flow has moved the shad off some of the wingdams they were on to points unknown.

I was also out on 5a on Sunday. I agree, tough to get any kind of big fish pattern right now. Semm pretty scattered.

I wanted to share this with you guys, but I wasnt there. My friend was telling me that he was out on 5A on Monday and was noticing the same thing. He found some good schools that were surrounding shad. Good luck guys
