Well this was defnitally a wierd weekend. A buddy of mine that lives down near trempleau had a bunch of geese scouted out in a cut sweet corn field. He said he had about 150 or so that were in there everymorning and every nite. The plan was to come down wednesday and stay overnite and put a hurten on em. Well tuesday I found a flock of 60 or so about a mile from my house in a cut hay field. with gas prices the way they are i decided to hunt those thursday morning. not a goose showed up for somereason. had to work thursday nite so after i got done i headed down for a morning hunt. got to trempleau after a stop in winona about 1. got a few hours a sleep and woke up. they picked a 5 guy 5 goose limit out of the field on thursday morning so i figured hopefully some geese would come back that next morning. we had a decent day with some geese being shy but still wanting in. i my self got 3 with the rest of the group getting at least one or two. saturday morning we slept in letting the field rest with no geese scouted any where else. i headed back to pepin that afternoon to try to put some geese down on big lake. the storm came through and the geese didnt want to fly at all. so another doughnut for me. had a fun weekend tho weather i shot 3 geese or 30. hey, theres still 11 more days left!
sorry no pictures. ill get some next time tho

Glad to hear you got some shootin. Opening day we did not do that good, saw a few flocks, but nothing would come in. I think because of the clear day maybe. who knows. what i need to do is get a WIS license you guys have it made with better rules compare to MN rules. keep us updated on how your season is going.

went out yesterday morning. we set up in a flooded grassy bay. a buddy of mine scouted it untill dark to see if any birds were coming in that nite. not one. we decided to go anyways we figured ya cant kill geese in your bed. we got about halfway across the bay and about 150 geese started waking up. they must have dumped in there after dark. anyways we walked pretty much within 100 yards of them as we were walking in but we planned on setting up on the far side of the bay. we set up and as it got light the geese flew up over the mississippi river over towards lake city. about a half hour later a single comes back in. i had my dog with and it was the first hunt of the year for him so i wanted to make sure he was steady and didnt break. i let the buddy pop. my dog never broke and i was proud that the traiing the summer paid off. he had a terrible problem of breaking last fall so we worked expecially hard on that this summer. we seen about half of the geese that got up come back in but im sure they knew we were there and they landed out on the lake. decided to sleep in and im gonna give her hell tomarrow

Went to alexandria for some early goosing. It was tough we had big thunderstorms both mornings we went out. O well. Lots a birds around and always a good time. We still managed to bag a couple. I wondered however what some of you thought about decoys this time of year. Can you have to many this early? or is it more the merry? Wonderin what some of ya think. ike

there are mixed emotions on weather the clear bluebird days are better or the more overcast crappy days. tell ya what we stayed out in that thunderstorm saturday nite and didnt kill a bird. the ducks were barely moving. i dont think it much matters this time of year. but when your talking nasty cold fronts, the birds are usually in front of those. most of which days are on bright sunny days. i defnitally am glad i live in wisconsin. 5 bird limit, started on thursday not saturday, and can shoot 6 ducks a day. north dakota has defnitally got some wierd rules tho. for the regular goose season, you cant shoot after 1 o clock except on wednesdays and sundays, and after such and such a date you can shoot geese untill 1. very wierd. good luck for the rest of the fall

the number of dekes we put out in usually based on the number of geese in the area. you defnitally dont want to put out 200 decoys when there has only been 50 geese in a field. we try to put our decoys in "family flocks". groups of about 5-8 together in little bunches. what i have defnitally noticed about the season is most of the birds arent responding to alot of calling. they dont like being hammered on, just throw a few clucks at them to let them know your there and maybe if they look like they are turning to leave get on them just a little more.
