Looking for some advice. I'm going on a trip to Costa Rica in January and I'm looking to do some fishing.

Anyone ever fished there? I'm trying to decide whether to spend my money to hire a guide or buy a travel saltwater set up? Does anyone have thoughts or experiences about hiring a guide from the internet in advance??? -or- waiting until your there to feel it out??? and What is the deal with saltwater stuff? I know you need a different type of reel than you do for freshwater, but what about rods? Online stores have a saltwater section for rods, is this just a scam to get you to buy more stuff? anyone happen to know?

Thanks-
Jeff

speaking from no expierence.... when i was down in jamacia a few years ago, i met some guys that had been fishing with the locals. they always bring down a bunch of big rapalas and trade them to the locals for days on the water. they always gave them thier catch because it was what they lived off of, so they we happy to have an extra fisherman in the boat and some new tackle also. after being in jamaca, they people are different than the minnesota/wisconsin people we are use to, so if you are not careful, you could be playing with your life. but i thought it was a cool idea, and i said if i ever go back, i would bring some rapalas along, just in case i met someone i thought i could trust. might be an option for a cheap fishing trip. good luck!
