View Full Version : Stormy Wednesday and Pool 7

I was able to hit pool 7 last night with Dodge Boy and a few others from the Jerking Lips club. They have a regular Wednesday night tourney and last night was the end of them for the season.
Dodge Boy was at the helm and we headed for some slop. As we got there the third rain of the afternoon hit us. We were throwing frogs and only had one pike crush it and some short hits finally pulling the first keeper of the night.
Next we hit the front point of an island with sand, and eel grass. We were using a Carolina rig, rattle trap, and chug bug. We managed several fish including a 2lb smallie and a 3lber that I lost for my partner at the boat due to some very poor net skills  I was a bit ticked off to say the least.
We ended the night out of the money but I had a great time with those Jerking Lips guys. Thanks to Dodge Boy for the invite and I hope to do it more often next summer.

Excellent Report Haywood!!! Sand points are a blast especially with the eel grass on it. I am jealous!! What were ya throwing on your carolina rig.

We were thorwing a brush hog. I am not sure what is appealing about them but it seemed to work.
We caught a few fish on each technique, we could not find a dominate tactic...well unless the variety of baits thrown was the tactic?

I dont fish carolina rigs that often, how much weight should I be using? I'm sure it ranges with the current.

I will let Aloos handle this for the most part, I am sure he has more experience than I.
I will use an ounce but my partner went heavier than that.
Current does make a difference.

I usually use 1/2 ounce, but will go as heavy as 1 ounce (rare), or as light as 3/8's (I have been using that recently). lighter weights don't snag as much.

your exactly right mossboss, I try to get by as light as I can, but most often I find myself using 1/2oz. I want just enough to feel bottom.

What are you guys asking this Loos guy for? As far as I'm concerned you can throw a red, white, and blue ore for bass and still catch a limit.
Just kidding Loos Ha Ha

Hey MarbleEyes,
I forgot to tell you the last time I saw you that I have been guttin walleyes especially the big ones and then throwing them back. They resemble a dog fish so much that I can't help myself. :D :D :D

I think Mossboss is right. Personally I dont fish Carolina rigs that often on rivers, but when I do I will go as light as I can, but heavy enough to feel bottom. However, if your strike zone is small I have found that a heavier one with lighter line keeps it in a better position. Lighter line= less drag, for those wondering.
