What do you all prefer to use when bow hunting. I mean they all have there advantages and disadvantages, but what makes one better than another?

dude i would always go witha carbon arrow. the main reason is because if you shoot it at a deer or anything you dont have to worry about bending or breaking the arrow unless you hit a rock or really hard bone.

I like Carbon myself. They are either broken or perfectly straight. I used to catch my self trying to justify using a slightly bent aluminum arrow saying," It will probably fly good." Tell that to yourself when that barely bent aluminum arrow does a nose dive into the ground at the feet of a nice buck. Or worse yet wounding him. After shooting a deer with a carbon arrow the Pro's say to bend it back and forth and listen to it. If you hear the fibers cracking throw it away. If you don't hear anything, keep using it. I have used them for up to 4 deer before they have broke, I would think it probably is cheaper in the long run too.

yeah, I would think in the long run a person would save buying carbon or alum. Just for the amount of time you can use them.

Sorry boys.. You have a traditionalist in your midst. Not traditional in the cedar shaft sense, but a guy that still prefers the sensibility of aluminum shafts. There is no doubt that carbon arrows probably out perform aluminum from a longevity and maybe even a FPS standpoint due to reduced weight yet stiff spine standpoint. But at some point you have to work value and ease of tune into the picture. I use a pretty heavy shaft like a 2317 or equivalent 2514 tipped with a 125 broadhead and have to say it is the easiest set up to tune that I have come across. I have used lighter shafts but have not had any luck getting them to fly as well as the big dogs. I usually get my arrows for 3 or 4 bucks apiece and get a half dozen to last me throughout the year. I have used the same arrow for as many as 3 or 4 deer, but most only last for one. If I have a slightly bent arrow, it goes in the practice quiver, or the fourth position in my hunting quiver that is used for archery drives, coyotes, or other vermin. I may switch to carbon someday, but until I hit the lotto, I'll stick with the fatties. :D

now I an an alum guy as well. I think that the main reason for me is because I have a hard time going away from what's worked for me. I've had success with the old school aluminum arrows as for now i feel no need to change. I also use the big heavy aluminum arrows. They just work. I hope that they just work this weekend not sure where im going but I still have one tag to fill.

I would shoot what flys best in your bow. Are you a finger shooter or a release shooter? When it is all said and done its like beer. Any brand, in can or bottle, can provde excellent results.
