Hey guys, Well it was off to a slow start for most of the 3B shotgunners that hunt the area around the ridge in Money Creek, MN. I did see a few meatpoles sporting some nice bucks, but the overall report from the several hunting parties that I spoke with was mediocre at best. Not a lot of deer being shot from stand, and short drives of heavy cover proved to be the best tactic over the weekend. I saw a 130 class buck while bowhunting on Saturday night, and he came within 2 steps of taking an arrow. I came within 2 seconds of a cardiac, but who's keeping track.. It was incredible having a mature, massive, whitetailed buck that close, and having the real possibility of putting him on the ground. What a hunt! I have my eye on him, so hopefully he can dodge the slugs for a few more days. Did you have some success? Lets hear about it! I wanna see pic's... :D

I wish I had a pic for ya, but nothing as of right now. I have also heard that many parties have not been shootin many deer. What do you think the reason is behind this?

There has been a lot of talk about how many deer were taken out of our area during the new revised 3A season that allows hunters in 346 to take antlerless deer as well. There was a dramatic increase in 3A hunters and I must admit that I saw them take a dozens of deer out of the area including 2 bruiser 10 pts and 5 respectable 8pts, not to mention at least 15 lesser bucks and at least 20 doe. I think the boys that hunt the 3B season may have a change of heart next year. What is the point of separating the seasons in 346 if you can shoot either sex during 3A? The campground was a packed house during 3A and is nearly vacant now during 3B which is the total opposite of what normally happens. This has the 3B campers/hunters wondering where are all the hunters, but more importantly where did all the deer go? There are a lot of folks that still just hunt as a matter of family tradition and aren't concerned with trophy hunting at all. It is there goal to get out with their family over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy the sport of hunting without regard to antler size or management practices. That is why there will always be the 3B preference over the shorter 7day 3A season. Time to hunt is only clear 3B advantage...9 days with a holiday in the middle.
