I have fished through the ice several times both in northern WI and MN, and a couple of times on lake Winona, but I don't know where else are decent places to go on the river.

I just purchased (with Christmas money) a new Vexilar (FL-8SE) and am dying to get out and use it.

I still consider myself somewhat new to the area so I don't necessarily know where places are by name, so if any of you would be willing to share some hot spots I'd be forever in your debt.

Also seeing as how i'm certainly no expert ice-fisherman, what are you using for baits? My entire ice-fishing inventory fits snugly in a single small plastic tackle box and is mostly very small ice jigs and a few ice spoons and some 'helicopter' style baits. Most of the time i've just used a small hook, small split-shot and a minnow for crappies.

Last season I made some tip-down that seem to work very well for the crappies up north, do people use these around here much?

That's enough for now, and thanks in advance for any advice.
