Went out Smallie fishing this morning and had a blast!! Ended up catching about 25 smallmouth with the biggest one about 3lbs. It seemed wherever I found baitfish there were always a few smallies around them. I caught most of my fish on a 1/4oz rattletrap. Especially in early morning, those fish are so aggressive I actually had two fish on with the one lure, one ended up getting off though. With the current finally back to were it should, it makes fishing the main channel much easier. Not only did we catch fish on wingdams, but also on Rock Banks were i pulled the 3 pounder. With using a rattletrap along the rocks I made sure that I was retying every few fish, between the rocks and the zebra mussels they just wreck your line.

Nice Smallie!
Did you go in search of anthing busting or did you have some spots in mind?
How big a role did current make?
Did you have to have it, (current) or was it better to be in the slack?

The smallies were in the current. Some of the spots i hit were new, but other I already knew about. Its amazing how one day the shad are there thick and the next day they have already moved on. I think with the water low, the faster the current you can find the better the spot will be on the breaklines of that current, but pretty much all the smallies I caught were right in the current.

Nice smallmouth, I'm going out today to see what I can find. Hopfully it will be A successful outing. Just wondering if you could give some pointers on using the rattle trap, I never really give them much of A chance because I have not caught any fish on them.

Right now with most of the baitfish still small you will want to throw a smaller rattletrap to match the baitfish. The smallies know what they are after and thats why its so important to match the size if its possible. You could also try small shallow running cranksbaits. This will get them, sometimes!!!
Good luck!!
