Duck Opener Minnesota

It looks like the Duck Opener will be October 1st in Minnesota. What a great idea to wait that extra week this year.

well actually, aside from the 500 weekend warm weather warriors being completely unsportsman-like sky busting and shooting at decoying ducks that were way out of range, the opener last fall really wasnt all that bad in wisconsin. there were plenty of birds that were more than willing to decoy if someone else didnt wreck it for you. thats about the only thing i dont like about opener. if you can find a good spot all to your self than your set but most of us hunt public land so its pretty tough. i have a few private ponds but they dont start to get good untill the migration. but the duck numbers are always good around the start of the season. its the lack of really big cold fronts and the warm temps that i think messed us up for the migration this last fall. also the lack of water we have had in the past 3 years have the bottom lands looking pretty dry so i think the majority of the ducks have been flying through instead of stopping. dont get me wrong we still had some awesome migration hunts last fall, just nothing like were all used to
