Lake Onalaska Sloppin!!

Haven't been down to Lake Onalaska for a while, so I thought I would head down and do a little slop fishing for Largemouth. I thought it would be pretty tough with the Everstart Bass Tournament just finishing up, but still ended up pulling some nice Largemouth. With all the pressure that has been going on down there, I worked the slop frog really slow. What I mean by slow is dragging it 2 feet and then stopping it, the drag and stop method. When fishing slop it seems like they always blewup on it, but missed the bait. What I was doing was when they missed it, I would either throw back a tube or a swimming jig and would sometime get them to take it. My biggest fish for the day was a 4lber and many smaller fish in the 2lb range. Right now with this heat it has really pushed those largemouth into cooler places like the scum. So get out there and give it a try.

that slop fishing i have heard is a good time. I have dabbled very little however i have had the same problem as you in the short strike situation and here is what i was told on another site. The reason the fish short strike is because they do this often to frogs to stun them. Then once the frog is stunned and not moving it makes the picking easy however if the frog just keeps moving then they don't waste there time. I took this advice to the water a couple of weeks ago and here is what happened. I had a fish short strike/miss my zara and so like and idiot of habit i set the hook. I casted back out and i was lucky because the fish struck again only to do the same thing and miss it however i did not even move the zara from the swirl of the bass and sure enough he came up and sipped it like it was the easies meal he ever ate.
So i know this works and the first time it works for you it is good feeling. Give it a try it can't hurt any and it sure beats throwing a second lure in the water.
Speaking of second lure in the water. (long winded today) i have heard of guys having this happen and in situations where they can have two lines in the water they leave the scum frog or whatever topwater in the water and cast a second one out and that seems to produce as well.
