i feel pike are very easy to fish. dont make it to complicated. as long as you find the depth they are at, most lures will trigger hits. i do this by trolling different depths with rapalas. use a variety of raps that run at the different depths so you remain with 3 feet of bottom. troll or cast shallow stick baits in the shallows (since yours hit a hoola poper i would start shallow-make sure you note the time of day this took place also) and work your way down to trolling deep runners (they will get as deep as 20-25 feet, some even deeper. otherwise, were bait fish will be, so will your pike. different lures work better than others but you should be able to find them with anything and then start looking for the lure they really want. pike are a teritory fish so even if it isnt appatizing, they will still hit it if it comes in thier domain.
good luck

The more I throw the Chatter Bait, the more I find it is a good pike bait as a great bass bait.
