Tried Pepin for some walleye and sauger on Friday afternoon with Winona Bones and my friend Andy from Wisco. We were sure nervous when we saw all the open water on the way up, but when we got to Maple Springs we were greeted by an atv on the ice. I think we set up a little too shallow at first and after nothing for a few hours we decided to move deeper to about 30fow which did the trick. We got quite a few bites as the sun went down and pulled a few from the icy depths of lake Pepin, the best of which was a fat 17" sauger. It was tasty. We used jigging rapalas and swedish pimples with minnow heads.

Thats awesome guys. How thick was the ice? When I was driving up to the cities this weekend, I saw a four wheel out there, so it has to be pretty thick.

We only landed four fish, but we missed quite a few more. I kept pulling my line in hand over hand like an idiot. I guess I got too used to fishing for sunnies. The fish really turned on for the last hour of the day. Until then not much was happening as far as we could tell. There was round 20" of ice so hopefully it will be fishable for a little while yet.
