Well, for those wondering I absolutley bombed my last BFL. Basically on home waters I only came in with 4.10lbs. BRUTUAL as my dad told me. The first mistake I made was that I had good fish on 4 and 5, but I didn't want to lock through for some reason, well to be honest I flipped a coin and I stayed on 4. The first spot my partner casted over my head 2x's and caught 2 fish. At that point I told him to have some sportsmanship, I guess when your younger some old guys think they can run all over you. SO I was messed all ready furious, to make matters worse I was trying to do something and I fell in, I dont own a trtion, but at that time I wsh I did because it was really hard to get in with all my rain gear in the morning.
Another frusterating part of my day was that I missed two solid fish where I sware I had hooks in them, my rod was bent to all heck and the toads came right back at me. GO figure. After that I calmed down and went to my small mouth spot to only catch shorts, that was brututally frusterating also. I went back to my starting area and kept on seeing fish roll on the frogs, I feel with the high pressure from fisherman and the weather that it was going to take some special technique to get them to bite. With one hour left I smoked two, one was deep under a tree in the scum and the other was under a dock, with scum. They were looking for even more shade and where most others can't get their toad. I was skipping them deep under there in the far back and snapping my rod tip to cause more comotion. Once I got those two in the boat I had atleast 5 more fish roll on the toad on a point with scum that had 8 feet of water underneath. I would also flip a jig and a brush hog to the bottom with no success.
So after all of that I realizes I just missed some really big opportunities, yet I still wish I could have locked down to 5. The only good thing is that I am still in the top 40 to make the big regional tournament in OHIO. Good luck to you all, talk to you soon. Oh yeah 17lbs won on a Toad, SUMO
